Uses:
Normoretic is a combination of Amiloride Hydrochloride 5mg and Hydrochlorothiazide 50mg. It is used to treat conditions such as high blood pressure (hypertension), heart failure, or extra fluid in the body (edema). Amiloride is a potassium-sparing diuretic that prevents the loss of potassium, while hydrochlorothiazide is a thiazide diuretic that promotes the elimination of excess salt and water from the body, thereby reducing blood pressure and fluid buildup.
Precautions:
Patients with a history of allergic reactions to either amiloride or hydrochlorothiazide, as well as those with certain medical conditions like kidney problems or diabetes, should exercise caution.
Side Effects:
Common side effects include increased urination, dizziness, and lightheadedness. Potassium retention due to amiloride may lead to hyperkalemia, causing symptoms like muscle weakness or an irregular heartbeat. Regular medical check-ups help monitor for potential side effects and ensure the medication's safe and effective use.
