USE
Spironolactone is used in combination with other medicines to treat high blood pressure (hypertension) and heart failure. Lowering blood pressure can reduce the risk of strokes and heart attacks
SIDE EFFECT
- Allergic reactions—skin rash, itching, hives, swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat
- Dehydration—increased thirst, dry mouth, feeling faint or lightheaded, headache, dark yellow or brown urine
- High potassium level—muscle weakness, fast or irregular heartbeat
- Kidney injury—decrease in the amount of urine, swelling of the ankles, hands, or feet
- Low blood pressure—dizziness, feeling faint or lightheaded, blurry vision
- Low sodium level—muscle weakness, fatigue, dizziness, headache, confusion
PRECAUTION
Spironolactone may be associated with hyperkalemia (high potassium levels), especially in patients with kidney disease. Please do not take potassium supplements while on spironolactone. If you experience any muscle weakness or paralysis, please stop the medication.
